Business Retreats & Conferences at Pine Mountain
Your team deserves more than a hotel ballroom.
The best ideas don't come from fluorescent lights and catered trays of cold pasta. They come from stepping outside the ordinary — from a walk through an old-growth forest, a meal grown a hundred yards from where you're sitting, and a setting so genuinely different that your team can't help but think differently too.
Pine Mountain Settlement School has been bringing people together in the Kentucky Mountains since 1913. We know how to host a group. We know how to feed one, house one, and give it room to do its best work. What we offer businesses is something most retreat venues can't match: a place with real soul, real land, and a staff that genuinely cares how your time here goes.
Why Pine Mountain Works for Business
Distance from the everyday. Our campus sits on nearly 800 acres on the north slope of Pine Mountain in Harlan County, Kentucky — a 3 to 5 hour drive from Lexington, Louisville, Knoxville, Atlanta, and Cincinnati. Far enough to feel like a real departure. Close enough to get there without a flight.
Space to think and space to meet. We offer a variety of meeting rooms and gathering spaces, all equipped with wireless internet, projectors, and screens. Whether you need a room for twenty or a campus for a hundred, we can configure the space around your agenda.
Food that matters. Our kitchen staff prepares breakfasts, lunches, and dinners from traditional recipes and locally grown ingredients, much of it raised right here on our campus farm. We can accommodate everything from working lunches to celebratory dinners. All dietary needs can be met with advance notice.
Lodging in historic buildings. Your team will sleep in our beautiful, well-maintained historic buildings not generic hotel rooms. Westwind Dormitory, Far House, Hill House, and other campus residences offer comfortable, character-filled accommodations that become part of the retreat experience itself.
A purpose behind every dollar. Booking your retreat at Pine Mountain means your organization's investment directly supports our mission: enriching lives and connecting people through Appalachian place-based education. Your team leaves knowing their presence made a real difference in the local community and beyond.
What We Can Arrange for Your Group
We are experienced hosts and flexible partners. Tell us what your team needs and we will build around it. Past groups have combined their working sessions with:
Guided summit hikes and nature walks through our 348-acre State Nature Preserve
Appalachian folk music performances with local musicians and callers
Traditional craft workshops — pottery, weaving, and more
Farm tours and farm-to-table cooking experiences
Evening campfires, storytelling, and stargazing
These aren't add-ons. They're the part of the retreat people remember longest and talk about back at the office.
