Internships at Pine Mountain Settlement School

Nestled in the mountains of Bledsoe, Kentucky, Pine Mountain Settlement School offers a hands-on internship for anyone passionate about environmental education, Appalachian culture, sustainable agriculture, and community. As a Programming Intern, you'll live and work on our historic campus, gaining real-world experience while helping us carry out our mission — all while building a personal project of your own to take with you when you go.

  • Starts: September, January, or June

  • Term Length: 3 months, 6 months or 9 months

  • Compensation: Paid bi-weekly stipend

  • Housing: On-campus housing provided

  • Meals: Some meals provided

  • Perks: Full access to our creative spaces and materials

  • Schedule: Varied schedule, approximately 30 hours per week

What You'll Be Doing

As a Programming Intern, you'll work alongside our staff and educators to support Pine Mountain's core programs, including:

  • Environmental Education

  • Appalachian Art, Culture & Craft

  • Agriculture & Sustainable Food Systems

  • Foraging & Herbalism

Beyond the classroom (and the trail), you'll also help out with:

  • Community Outreach

  • Fundraising

  • Marketing

  • Hospitality

  • Archives

Your day-to-day may include leading hikes, teaching K-12 and adult programs, caring for classroom animals, supporting events like Pass It On and Naturalist Weekends, and pitching in wherever the campus needs a hand — indoors or out.
